Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Forum6 events, membership and etiquette.

What is Forum6?

Forum6 is a professional networking platform that helps you build meaningful connections through curated, small-group, in-person gatherings — coffees, breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks.

Each gathering brings together no more than six people with relevant professional interests, giving everyone the opportunity to have a proper conversation and build genuine relationships.

What makes Forum6 different from other networking events?

Most networking events put dozens or even hundreds of people in a room and leave you to make your own introductions.

Forum6 works differently. We bring no more than six people together around one table, including the organiser. Before the event, confirmed attendees can view the Forum6 profiles and LinkedIn profiles of the people they'll be meeting.

The smaller format means you can learn a little about each person beforehand, get to know everyone around the table and leave with a handful of genuine new professional connections rather than a stack of business cards.

Who is Forum6 for?

Forum6 is for professionals who want to build genuine, in-person connections.

Membership is by application and members must be aged 21 or over. Once your account is created, you'll complete your member profile so organisers and other members can learn more about who you are and what you do.

How are people selected for an event?

Forum6 gatherings are intended to create interesting and relevant conversations rather than random tables.

Organisers select attendees using the information members provide in their profiles, such as their profession, industry, experience, interests, location and meeting preferences.

Forum6 is designed to help you meet new people and broaden your professional network, although you may sometimes attend another gathering with people you've met before.

How big is each event?

Forum6 events are intentionally intimate, with a maximum of six confirmed attendees including the organiser.

Organisers may invite more than six people so a gathering can still fill if some invitees are unavailable. Places are confirmed as invitations are accepted until all six places are taken. Other interested members can then join the waitlist.

Do I need to complete my profile?

Yes, although you don't need to complete everything before attending your first Forum6 event.

Your profile has two parts:

Part One — Member Details provides the information other members and organisers need to know who you are and what you do, including your name, job title, sector and city/town. You must complete Part One before you can accept your first event invitation or request to join your first event.

Part Two — Member Meeting Preferences gives organisers more information about the kinds of people and professional connections you're interested in meeting.

After you've attended your first Forum6 event, you'll need to complete both Part One and Part Two before you can accept another invitation or request to join a second event.

You can continue to view other members' Forum6 profiles after your first event even if you haven't yet completed Part Two.

How do invitations work?

Organisers can invite existing Forum6 members or anyone outside Forum6 by entering their email address.

If you're already a Forum6 user, you'll receive an email and an in-app notification and can accept or decline from the event page.

If you aren't yet registered, you'll need to create a Forum6 login and password and complete Part One of your member profile before you can accept the invitation.

Places are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis until the maximum of six attendees, including the organiser, has been reached.

Can I request to join an event if I wasn't invited?

Yes. All Forum6 events allow join requests.

If you discover an event or someone forwards the event details to you, you can request a place from the event page.

If you're not already a Forum6 user, you'll first need to register by creating a login and password and complete Part One of your member profile. You can then submit your request.

The organiser can review your profile before deciding whether to accept your request.

Can I invite someone who isn't yet a Forum6 member?

You can introduce someone to a Forum6 event by forwarding them the event details, and organisers can invite people directly using their email address.

Before a new user can accept an invitation or request to join, they'll need to create a Forum6 login and password and complete Part One of their member profile.

This makes it easy to introduce interesting people to Forum6 while ensuring everyone around the table has a profile before attending.

What happens if an event is full?

Once six people, including the organiser, have confirmed, the event is full.

You can then join the waitlist. If a confirmed attendee cancels, everyone on the waitlist is notified by email at the same time, and the first to accept claims the available place.

Can I see who else is attending?

Yes. Once you're confirmed for an event, you can view the Forum6 profiles of your confirmed co-attendees, including their LinkedIn profiles, before the event.

That means you can learn a little about each of the people you'll be sitting down with before you meet. With no more than six people around the table, it's much easier to get to know everyone and have a meaningful conversation with the whole group.

Forum6 profiles can also be viewed by other Forum6 members who have completed at least Part One of their profile. LinkedIn profile details, however, are only visible to members who are confirmed to attend the same event.

Can I message other members?

Messaging is available between members who are confirmed to attend the same Forum6 event.

This means you can communicate with your co-attendees around the event while keeping Forum6 messaging within the context of genuine professional gatherings rather than creating an open prospecting platform.

Who pays for food and drinks?

Unless the event listing specifically says otherwise, everyone pays for their own food and drinks directly with the venue.

Your Forum6 membership does not include food, drinks or other personal costs incurred at a gathering.

Are Forum6 events free to attend?

Forum6 does not normally charge members an additional fee simply to attend a standard gathering.

You're responsible for your own food, drinks and other venue costs unless the event listing clearly says otherwise. If a particular event has an additional charge, this will be made clear before you confirm your place.

Can I cancel my RSVP?

Yes — life happens. You can cancel your RSVP from the event page.

We ask that you cancel as early as possible so another member has the opportunity to take your place.

A cancellation made less than eight hours before the event is recorded as a late cancellation. Failing to attend without cancelling is recorded as a no-show.

Late cancellations and no-shows form part of your attendance record because empty seats have a significant impact when there are only six people at a gathering.

What is the no-show policy?

Reliability matters when there are only six places around the table.

Forum6 keeps an attendance record that distinguishes between ordinary cancellations, late cancellations and no-shows. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in a temporary suspension from Forum6.

You can view your attendance record from your profile.

What happens if the organiser cancels an event?

If the organiser cancels a gathering, confirmed attendees and waitlisted members will be notified.

An event cancelled by the organiser does not count against your attendance record.

What does Forum6 membership cost?

Your first Forum6 event is free — you can register, create your profile and attend your first event without paying anything.

No card details are required to join Forum6 or attend your first event. Payment details are only needed if you choose to continue as a paid member to attend further events.

After your first event, membership is $6 per quarter — that's $2/month × 3 months membership (Early Member special, normally $20/month).

Membership gives you access to the Forum6 platform, events and invitations, member profiles and the connections you make through Forum6.

Current membership options and pricing are always shown on the Membership page.

How do I become an organiser?

There's no application process.

Once you've attended at least two Forum6 events and have no no-shows on your attendance record, you'll automatically become eligible to become an organiser.

We'll let you know by email and in Forum6 when you become eligible. You'll also see the option to Become an Organiser in your profile.

To activate organiser status, simply review and accept the Forum6 Organiser Standards.

Once activated, you can create and host gatherings, invite people by email and select members who request to join your events.

The organiser counts as one of the maximum six people at every event they host.

What behaviour is expected at Forum6 events?

Forum6 is built around respectful, professional conversation.

Members should treat one another as they would at any professional gathering. Harassment, discrimination, aggressive behaviour, unwanted solicitation or other conduct that makes members feel uncomfortable is not acceptable.

Serious or repeated breaches of Forum6 community standards may result in suspension or removal from the platform.

Is Forum6 a sales networking platform?

No. Forum6 is about building professional relationships, not delivering sales pitches.

Business opportunities, referrals and collaborations may naturally come from the relationships you make, but members shouldn't use Forum6 gatherings or messaging for aggressive selling, unsolicited promotion or persistent prospecting.

The aim is to meet interesting people and build relationships first.

Where are Forum6 events held?

Forum6 gatherings can take place at cafés, restaurants, bars and other appropriate venues selected by the organiser.

The location and other event details will be shown on the event page before you confirm your attendance.

What if I have dietary or accessibility requirements?

If you have specific dietary, accessibility or other venue requirements, please check the venue information and contact the organiser if necessary before confirming your attendance.

Forum6 organisers will do their best to select appropriate venues, but individual venues are responsible for their own menus, facilities and accessibility.

Can I attend Forum6 events in another town or city?

Yes. You're not limited to attending gatherings in your home town or city.

Where Forum6 events are available in another location, you can accept an invitation or request to join an event in the usual way.

How is my information used?

Your profile information helps organisers select relevant gatherings and helps Forum6 members learn more about one another.

Forum6 does not sell your personal data.

Your LinkedIn profile has additional privacy protection and is only visible to members who are confirmed to attend the same event as you.

Please read our Privacy Policy for full details about how your information is collected, used and protected.

How do I report a problem or another member?

If you have a concern about an event or another member's behaviour, please contact Forum6 support.

We take the safety and professionalism of the community seriously. Depending on the circumstances, inappropriate behaviour may result in a warning, temporary suspension or removal from Forum6.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your Forum6 account from the Membership section within your Profile tab.

Your personal information will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
